German Swirls
Handmade German swirls are the classic pontil-era marbles: a cane of coloured glass twisted around a core, cut by hand at both ends. Attribution here is always by construction and pattern, never by paperwork.
What to look for
- Look at the core first — solid, divided, latticinio or ribbon.
- Two rough pontils are normal and are a manufacturing mark, not damage.
- Check for out-of-round shape and cold-roll lines from hand finishing.
